How do I find out how many people were jailed by lawyers for debt collection?
People who can't pay a debt are sent a supoena to appear in court for what is called an aid and execution hearing. If they fail to appear, they are sent another supoena for contempt of court. If they fail to appear a warrant for there arrest is issued. I would like to find out how many people are arrested for this, and I would also like to know how many of those are on disability or welfare.

- who what where and when did this happen??
- It wouldn't be the attorneys who do this, it would be the judge. You could call up the court and ask how many people are jailed for contempt. However, in many places, there isn't a contempt citation issued; if the defendant doesn't show, the plaintiff enters a summary judgement in favor of the plaintiff. Ya know, no matter what, it's still best to show up for court.
- if anything the people under your fact pattern are jailed not for owing debt but failure to appear at a court hearing, which failure to appear can lead to a warrant if the person shows at the debt hearing for assets and says iam broke the judge is not going to place the person in jail for not being able to pay debt
