Can a person in NC sue their former employer for giving out personal contact info to a debt collector?
I know about The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act 15 U.S.C. ยง 1792; and that it is illegal for the agency to contact an employer, but I think they can get away with doing it once?

- Well that kinda depends if the debt is a federal or state debt they can but just to any bill collector i think not!!!!!!!
- They can try to contact YOU at your place of employment, and if you tell the collector then that you do not want contacted at work, they have to stop. Your employer is not under any circumstances allowed to give out your personal info, save a warrant for said info.
- The information belongs to the company, and they are free to do with the information as they want. Same as if you had information on someone. Your state may have a law prohibiting bill collectors from contacting an employer, but I doubt it, since they are allowed to garnishee your wages. They must confirm you work their, and you have earned money before they can garnishee your wages. Only the government is required to get warrants. Private people and business aren't required to get a warrant.
