Debt Problems

What’s the best way to fix my credit?

I have debt that’s about 2 years old now that I haven’t made any payments on. I’m straightening my life out and I want to get back to the good credit I had going for the 5 years prior to my debt problems. It all happened in one bad year. I haven’t incurred any more debt, but I haven’t been able to make any payments either. It’s time to stop avoiding them and start paying up. But I would like to find someone who can cut out most of those late fees and make a deal with the companies (there are three to which I owe.) NO ADVERTISING HERE PLEASE! I don’t want company responses. I want to hear from people who’ve fixed there debts already or who are fixing them now. Thanks!

  1. You don't need anyone to do it for you. All they do is negotiate your debts for you and collect a fee. You can do it yourself! Call all of them and work out a payment plan and try to get your interest lowered or stopped. Then, make the minimum payments on every one of them. On the lowest dollar value, put all your extra effort toward paying it off. Once it is paid off, then roll that extra money to the next largest balance. Continue this snowball until all your debts are paid off. You proabbly need to cut your expenses back to the bare minimum. Get rid of cable, cell phones, internet, etc. Lower your electric bill, gas bill, water bill, etc. Don't eat at a restaurant until your debts are under control. Try to increase your income by getting a second job. If you have a car with payments, get rid of it, and buy a good dependable used car for CASH. Go to the library and get "The Total Money Makeover". Read it and follwo it carefully. Go check out Dave's website as well. www.daveramsey.com

  4. Listen ur quest for knowledge should stop with Rick B's ansewer above. it is thorough and works. i was exactly where u are. am cleaning up my situation. i tried all those other ways where u make one payment to a credit solution agency and they pay on ur behalf. didn't work for me. i tried attacking the one with the least interest rate unfortunately it was the largest wmount i owed, and ur guess is good. until i cam across dave ramsey. the make makes common sense common sense. visit his website and get u the book total money make over. then listen to his radio show online or search for ur local listings. i have learned so much about finances and i now feel in control and just about getting done with this debt thing. one thing i will never never touch credit cards again they are snakes and if u play with them they bite. i am not going back in debt again. dave has a 7 stepe process to get u clear of debt and on ur way to financial prudence. i am so fired up about this program i bought the book for two of my friends and they joined me on this journey ti beat this rut system. so i highly recommend it. what do u have to lose anyway. below is the baby steps, print them out and stick it on ur fridge door. look at this comment from dave himself Debt Myth: Debt is a tool and should be used to help create prosperity. Truth: Debt is not a tool; it is a method to make banks wealthy, not you. Debt is dumb. Most normal people are just plain broke because they are in debt up to their eyeballs with no hope of help. If you're in debt then you're a slave, in the sense that you do not have the freedom to use your money to ...... if this makes even a little sense click here (http://www.daveramsey.com/)and read the rest of it
