What do you think of the idea of a tax surcharge to pay for the Iraq war?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071002/ap_on_go_co/us_iraq_tax Although I am typically against raising taxes for any purpose, I am also against passing on deficits to future generations. Do you think that raising taxes now is the answer, even considering the risk of pushing the country into a recession? Or do you support keeping taxes low, and attempting to solve the deficit and national debt problems through economic growth and spending restraint from this point forward? I can tell you that I would be much more likely to support the tax surcharge if I thought it would end with the Iraq War. However, anybody with any sense knows that politicians would then just find something else to spend the money on. Thoughts? Samantha Stickers: Actually, Democrats brought this plan to the floor. Try to keep up.

- How about making the feds spend less.
- No problem with it. I don't like the idea of passing on the bill for the war to my kids. Be crystal clear however, just like the telephone tax that was set up to pay for the Spanish-American war, this tax would never, ever go away. At the end of the day, this just shows the Democrats for what they really are.
- There you go again. You tax and spend Republicans. At least now you are thinking of ways to pay for your big government wastefull programs instead of stealing the money from our children.
- First the spending has got to come under control, so I can either pony up a few extra hundred a year or sell my country to the Communist Chinese. I will more than happily accept a tax increase to get this country fiscally sound, with the debt we carry it will soon start to affect our foreign policy, the Chinese will black mail us withthreatening to dump dollars if we don't vote their way at the UN. Dumping dollars leads to hyper inflation.
